Turf establishment, by the simplest definition, is the planting of turfgrasses

There are several different types of planting events, ranging from new plantings (i.e. constructing a new turf area where one did not exist before), to renovation or re-construction of an existing turf area, to overseeding or repairs for established turf.

Mature, well-established turf is most functional as well as most tolerant of pests, use, cultural practices, and environmental stresses.  Well-established turf is also more likely to exhibit a desirable level of appearance.
